I am winding down from over a year of treatment and for the next 3 years I will be getting CT scans every 12 weeks. I think I am done with blood labs since my chemo is finished. My question is with the limited use/need for my port what is the best option to have my port flushed every 4-6 weeks?  I just want to pay cash to do this and not turn it in to insurance since I have a $2500 deductable. Can I go to a clinic or imaging center for this instead of the hospital lab? Does anyone know what a typical charge should be for a flush and heprin fill?

When I found out I was getting a port I did some research and found several you tube videos of people who flush their own port at home. These people did have some medical background such as nurses aid or going to med school. I don't know your background or if that would be something you would want to do. I just started the maintanace part of my treatment which means between treatments I have to drive 2 1/2 hours one way just to get my port flushed.
