Good Afternoon all,
Good Afternoon all,
I joined this website hoping to find help, My mother was diagonsed with anal melanoma 2 1/2 yeas ago, she has been through chemotherapy and radiation twice now and currently on her third time of radiation and soon to start chemotherapy again. About 3 weeks ago she was told, she is now terminal after finding the cancer had spread even more to include her brain. I worry about her a lot, especially since I am so far away, I am in the Marine Corps. I write today trying to find places that might offer her financial aid. While she is battling to keep her life, all she can think about is the medical bills, morgages, and other bills piling up. I hate to see her worry about these things when there might not be much time left. since her being diagonsed her health insurance has increased by $1,100 a month. If anyone knows of foundations or charities that will help her, please let me know. thank you.

Corporal, I am sure you feel absolutely helpless. First make sure that your mother is with an oncologist that specializes in Melanoma. There is a list on this site and one on Melanoma International Foundation's site. It may be hard to get her to change oncologists but if she is not seeing a specialist this is absolutely necessary.
You should know there are many great things happening the world of melanoma right now. Lots of research that is going on. You mom needs to be in a trail. Unfortunately with brain involvement this will limit her options. But there are still options.
I don't know of charities etc to help with the cost of insurance but I would certainly check with her state insurance commissioner to see if the increase is even legal.
Good Luck,

The Healthwell Foundation helps with insurance premiums for metastatic melanoma patients. You can google them. The paperwork is a huge hastle, but they’re paying my husband’s premiums for the entire year.
