There is a Melanoma Center at UCSF you may want to check out: http://www.ucsfhealth.org/clinics/melanoma_center/. I believe both Dr. Daud and Dr. Algazi run some clinical trials and are very thoughtful, supportive individuals. My family has more experience with Dr. Daud, who has been willing to discuss a variety of options based on my father's case/personal priorities for treatment.
Dr. Minor at CPMC in SF also works with a team of melanoma specialists. I know he was running an ipi trial a year ago but am not sure about his current approach/focus. More info here: http://www.cpmc.org/services/cancer/melanoma/physicians.html.
There is also a melanoma team at Stanford: http://cancer.stanford.edu/skincancer/team.html. We met with Dr. Reddy for a second opinion last year. He was running the same ipi trial as Dr. Minor and seemed inclined towards interferon as the first approach for my father, who was Stage IIIC.
All three have great reputations in the melanoma field and seem to be pretty aware/informed about new treatments. Whether or not they would advise/offer a treatment likely depends on the specific case and what treatments they have access to.

I have been treated by Dr. Reddy and his team at Stanford. Great quality of care and he's very knowledgable.

I saw Dr Minor at CPMC. I didn't care for his bed side manner but he is very knowledgable. I am now going on two years with NED and I am taking Tefinlar . I too am looking for a new doctor closer to my home. I have heard really good things about Dr Doud.
Stay strong and together we can beat this beast

Dr. Minor at California Pacific Medical center is a melanoma specialist (his is currently one of my doctors) and he has worked closely with Dr O'Day as well. He can be reached at 415-885-8600. He offers many clinical trials as well.
Dr. Adil Daud is also very good and is at UCSF – 415-353-9900 – also has several clincial trials going on.
Both of these doctors are very experienced treating melanoma and are worth consulting if you seeking a local expert.
Dr. O'Day is wonderful as well but of course is down in Beverly Hills as noted in the other post.
Wishing you good luck with your search!
