Hi, does anyone know if a mitotic index of 9 is a very high number?  Thanks

Is this on a biopsy?  It's certainly not the highest I've seen, but I'd probably say it is significant.  You want to see <1 and having even 1 mitosis ups you a stage.

It was on a biopsy on my leg. I have been stage 3 since 11/2012. I just got a new oncologist and we were discussing it the other day and he told me he was concerned at that number. My last oncologist never seemed to concerned. I guess the more I read this forum, the more I realize I don't know as much about this monster as I need to. Thanks

It's only the last couple of years that mitosis has been really given any attention.  End of 2010, it was added to stage I staging.  However, it is NOT included in any other staging at this point.  Since you are already stage III, I'm not sure what significance a mitosis of 9 really has.  You already know your at high risk.  I'd definitely worry a bit more if I were stage I with that number.
