I remember the melanoma specialist who I saw mentioned that if he was going to have a CLND he would also do the pelvis as there is an 8 percent chance that there is melanoma in the pelvis according to the statistics he quoted me. Apparently it is quite painful and a longer recovery period but he did recommend it but there is no concensus on this amongst other specialists.
I am not sure what stage that would make him but whatever stage it is it is certainly unwelcome. I imagine that surgery would be the first option regardless of staging.

So the sentinel node (nearest lymph node basin) was in the groin. When it goes beyond the closest basin, it is considered "distant", and distant is no longer stage III. If the primary had been on the trunk, it would be even more of a gray area but on the leg, you have to pass the groin nodes to get to the pelvic ones, I believe. Of course, confirm with your doc because he may stage things differently knowing all the details.
