For those who have took Yervoy. I have a few questions and I know eveyone is different. My husband is 34 yrs old. He have taken 3 rounds of Yervoy so far and had brain radioation twice. He gets his last round of yervoy this coming tuesday. Until this past sunday, he has not had any major symptoms, he has still been able to work 20-50 hours a week depending on how fatigue he is. Sunday he started having right side abdominal pains, they come and go. No diarhea, no fever etc. Just real tired and abdominal pains. This morning he felt like he was going to pass out when he first woke up and went to the restroom. He is drinking plenty of fluids and eating so-so. He is on megase or marinol for appitite, he has both. I read about the colitis and liver side effects and it makes me wonder if its something like that causing the pains. He has been a bit gassy too. I called his melanoma oncologist and he felt it was just normal side effects and he would be ok and he will see us next tuesday. If he does have inflammation of organs, it will pick it up on the blood work right? Did yall experience abdominal pains on yervoy and were able to complete all 4 doses?

Hi there,
I had ippi my first line of treatment so far. My experience with it was tiredness, abdominal pain a lot in fact I ended up 2 days in hospital. I did not have much GI issues but constipated more. The pain in stomach area would come and go. Just kept a good diet to help with the tiredness . It's normal systems with ippi. My results was 50% reduction of tumours. I have another scan tomorrow and still having discomfort but at my sides more than stomach now praying its treatment still getting them buggers.

Aundrea, is he seeing Dr. Cowey in the trial still? My husband is in the trial and we aren't sure which drug he is getting although he suspects ipi. He gets fatigued after the infusion but hasn't had any other noticeable side effects. This week his blookwork showed a spike in WBC and nutrophils so Cowey suspected he is fighting something off…no fever. We are going again on Tuesday as week 10 with scans coming up in a few weeks. Good luck to your hubby.

He progessed and never got to start the trial. He is on Yervoy outside of the trial. He has had brain radiation and a MRI in between due to headaches and checking the pituitary gland, he has 1 tumor disapear, 1 shrink, 2 are stable with no grown and one new one they treated laast friday. He is very emotional this morning but really trying to complete this last dose of yervoy. He is supposed to start infusion at 2 tuesday, hope to meet you. We start at 9 am with a check up with surgeon then head to see cowey at 1:10, its going to be a very long day.

Sorry to hear he didn't get to start the trial. You are in good hands with TX Oncology and I will be praying for you guys. We will be up there around the same time and I'll look for you Glad to hear abou the disappearing and shrinking tumor – that is what we hope continues for him. Hang in there.

When I did Ipi back in 2011, I had no GI issues. The only major side effects I experienced was severe itching and rash. It also did not do anything for the lung met I had at the time. Don't rely on other people symptoms as we are all different. You said he also had two SRS to the brain, so you need to be extremely vigiilant. I've also had brain radiosurgery a week ago for a brain met, and I'm telling you if I felt like fainitng I would be seeing my doctor quick. Make the doctor see him sooner if your husband is not feeling "right".

I finished Yervoy treatment and fortunately never had any side effects. But everyone is different.

Hi,
it was just normal pains nothing to do with liver , it is a side effect you can get with this treatment. I was just put on pain killers and constipation meds to help . Felt fine after a week but still odd days when got pains.

Hi Aundrea,
My experience with Yervoy was similar to what it sounds like your husband is dealing with. But my gastric issues started after I had received the fourth dose.
I got my last infusion on January 23. About two weeks later I began to notice some gastric discomfort. At first, because I had been on prednisone for so long, the doctor thought that was the source of the problem, and he advised me to take Maalox. That helped initially, but soon things got worse. Anything I ate gave me a bunch of gas, and crampy abdominal pain. I had a little diarrhea, but nothing severe. I was told to eat the "BRAT" diet: bananas, applesauce, rice, toast. In addition to those, I added chicken broth.
That lasted from mid-February through early March. I lost 15 pounds during that time, but since I needed to lose some weight, that was actually a good thing. Gradually the symptoms started to subside, and actually, thanks to the weight loss, when they were finally gone I think I felt better than I did before. Unfortunately in the meantime I have put that 15 pounds back on.
You do need to be careful of colitis, but if what your husband is dealing with is like what I had, this shouldn't last more than 3-4 weeks before he starts improving. Of course, in my case I had already finished my treatment, and he still has one to go, so in his case it might last a little longer.
