Just approved today for the Phase 4 trial combining IL-2 and Vemurafenib in sequence.  Anyone with experience in this trial who can tell me their experiences?

          Hey Mark,

So glad you have a plan and have all my fingers crossed that you will have success with it.  I have no personal experience to offer, but had posted this link earlier for folks who had questions about the combo.  Perhaps it will give you some info that you could use.

This article explains how BRAF changes the tumor so that immunologic agents can be even more effective when combined with it….like the Vemurafanib and IL2 combo that Mark is about to start.  Hope that helps.  C

My son was supposed to do this until we looked into the toxicity of it.  He was supposed to be in intensive care for the IL2 and that sent us looking for something less scary.  We are doing the combo (taf/mek) instead.

I was in this trial and dropped a week before the IL-2 treatment because my family freaked out. I stayed on Zelboraf until last week and then I switched to the tafinlar/mek combo that I'm on now.

Its a scary trial, but all of this is scary. It could be just the right thing for you. I often wonder if it could have been for me, but i also have to keep looking forward.

I hope this trail is perfect for you! Good luck!

                                        Mark-

Is this the trial through Prometheus Labs? I just finished IL2 though I did the ipi/HD IL2 trial so I can't speak to the zel portion as I was BRAF – but the Il2 is a tough treatment but very doable. You have a few rough weeks but bounce back. I did 11 bags for the 2 rounds of IL2. I went with trial because each drug acts on different mechanism and if you respond especially to IL2…it offers durable response. I'm basically back to 100% and I've been out of hospital just over week now. I have scans in 2 weeks.

I wish you all the best in your treatment plan. Keep us updated.
