      What I know of:

      Dr Kaufman at Rush

      Dr Kuzel at Northwestern

      Dr Brockstein at NorthShore

Dr Gajewski at U of Chicago

      Dr Richards at Lutheran General

      Dr Clark at Loyola

Those are oncologists, as far as surgery:

      Dr Winchester Jr, NorthShore

      Dr Yao, NorthShore

      Dr Sharpless, Lake Forest

      Dr Wayne, Northwestern

Dermatologists:  Dr Mary Martini, Pigmented Skin Lesion Clinic, Northwestern

There's also more info at http://www.chicagomelanomaconsortium.org/

You may also want to try the Carbone cancer center in Madison WI.  The melanoma specialist there.  Mark Albertini, is very knowledgable and easy to deal with.  The cancer center is part of the University of Wisconsin and is about 90 miles from the western burbs of Chicago.

Hi JB. I have seen Dr. Joseph Clark at Loyola. He is a great doctor! He is very caring and returns phone calls on his own. He has a bit of a dry sense of humor, but that's part of what my husband and I like about him.

He's fairly up to date on things in the field, but sometimes if it's not happening at Loyola, he's not overly familiar with it. So, when I was just doing run of the mill FDA approved treatments, he was our guy. When it came to clinical trials, he was usually only familar with what Loyola had to offer and we would have to do our own research.

So, depending on what your stage is and what you are looking for, he may be a great fit.

Thanks Angela. I know of someone else who had seen Dr. Clark and liked him. Did his IL 2 treatments which was successful for him and I think its been over 10 years. At this point I'm unknown stage as I have no unknown primary. Did PET Scan & SLNB which was negative but need to find a specialist as I'd like to be prepared in the event something happens down the road. Current oncologist is good but isn't up to speed or know the in & outs of melanoma. She said she has researched and seen some people do well or that potentially it is a dermal melnoma which would mean no metastis. Appears odds are comprable in regards to unknown primary and a dermal melanoma (2-3%). See need to find specialist. Thanks for advice….wishing you the very best!!

Hi, I have experience with Dr. Gawjeski (Sp?) at University of Chicago and Dr. Clark at Loyola.  My father and I were VERY happy with Dr. Clark!  He is an excellent, knowledgable, caring, physician. (Yes, with a dry sense of humor).  I would agree with the post above regarding clinical trials but Dr. Clark is very open to other types of treatment that may make sense.  He does a lot with IL-2 and is very responsive to his patients!  Good luck:)

        Hi Cate-

Thanks for advice. What about Gajewski at U of C? I’ve heard now that he along with Richards and Kaufman are foremost experts.
