My mother was just diagnosed with malignant mucosal melanoma of the sinuses last week. She lives in the north suburbs of Chicago. She has an initial appointment with Dr. Jon Richards on Monday. Any recommendations for a doctor to obtain a second opinion in the area? Many thanks in advance.

You are fortunate to have access to more than one good melanoma program in the Chicago area. Dr. Jeff Sosman just came to Northwestern not long ago from Vanderbilt. He is a senior expert and highly regarded. At the University of Chicago is Jason Luke, who is earlier in his career but very much at the top of his game. Either would be current on all the best practices and clinical trials.

I'm new to this too (Jan diagnosis) and agree with Tim. In fact, I've seen Dr. Richards 2 weeks ago and just finished up with my 2nd Dr. Luke appointment 45 minutes ago. I really appreciate both of their experience, time spent with me to talk about the disease and treatment approaches in context of my stage and general health. I've also made the trip down to MD Anderson and met with Dr. Tawbi for another opinion. Another great choice.

Hi.  I'm in the northern Chicago suburbs as well and I was also given Dr Richards name for a 2nd opinion.  I had also been given the name of Dr Britt Hanson at highland park hospital Kellogg cancer center.  I was more comfortable with a female doc and she has been awesome and is a great communicator.  I have been seeing her since may 2016 and am currently in regression and hopefully NED by my next scans in 2 weeks

My husband has been seeing Dr. Jason Luke at the University of Chicago.  I highly recommend him.
