Hubby is stage 4. Last week had a lot of pain and they upped his pain meds to Hydromorphone and Fentanyl Patch. He also had a new PET scan which showed his cancer is growing with a vengeance! It had shrunk as of August but now his new PET scan shows double the amount as he had in May when first diagnosed. He had his first Opdivo treatment 2 days ago. The constipation is really becoming a problem. Nothing seems to help. Hoping someone out there has a great cure for constipation. We have tried home enemas, warm prune juice, colace, miralax, and even had a shot in the ER. Nothing seems to be moving. Please help. Thanks.

I've been wondering about the results of your doctors appoint and am sorry to hear that what I feared would happen did. Can you tell us what the MRI of the brain and CTs revealed this week?

Also, can you tell me if your husbands brain mets ever treated? If not, why? Lastly, is he seeing a melanoma specialist yet?

I don't have any advice on constipation except to drink more liquids and limit sitting or bed rest.

I'm so sorry that he is suffering.  The only thing that I can suggest is mint tea, hot or cold.  Given that nothing else has worked, this might not have any effect, but it certainly can't hurt him.

                      Have you tried coffeee enemas?

Add some epsom salts to the coffee enema for real action.

There so no way you will still be constipated.

I'm having constipation too due to pain meds.

Might try senocot. Also try to walk even when he doesn't feel like it but be careful not to fall like I did. Also drink water.

I remember as a kid there was something called exlax. Might be something to look into.

Try magnesium. That will usually get you going. You can take supplements or just buy some Phillips Milk of Magnesia.

                                        Hi,

My husband had the same problem and nothing seemed to help for a prolonged period of time until the doctor called in Amitiza…. It is a prescription laxative made for constipation due to narcs.

Aloe Vera juice (at health food store or Trader Joes) is a colon cleansing agent – might help.  We used to put real maple syrup in hot cocoa when my son was little and that helped him.

My husband is also having this issue while on a ipi or nivo trial.
