      Hello.

I am scheduled for SRS to a brain met and I'm having it two days before my 30th birthday. We have plans for my birthday and I'm worried that my face will be all swollen, and I've also heard that it can cause brusing. I just wondered how many of you experienced this and if there is anything I can do to try and lessen the swelling and bruising?

      Thanks!

When my wife Joyce has SRS, which was 6 years ago, we did not notice any facial swelling and the only noticeable redness was around the four very small superficial skin punctures created by the four "pressure points" used to hold the "halo" in place.  For each of these, she was instructed to keep them clean (for a few days she had small band-aid spots on the 2 at her forehead) and check for any lingering redness (which might indicate a local skin infection).  On her 1 week after visit to the radiation oncologist, he checked to see that they had or were healing and she never experienced any problems.  I hope that your SRS goes as well and as smoothly,

My husband also had no facial swelling or bruising from SRS.  As the above poster said, just a little redness where the screws for the halo were inserted.

              Good luck.
