Getting SRS is state of the art treatment for brain mets.  Especially when it is followed by ipi or an anti-PD1 product.  More and more studies are demonstrating the abscopal effect that occurs in the brain (and some studies are beginning to note that effect in the body as well) when radiation is followed by one of these drugs.  As to your question:  NO.  Ipi does not cross the blood brain barrier.  BUT…much more importantly, the cells (T-cells) that ipi triggers to fight melanoma DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  For more information about the latest and best treatments for melanoma brain mets from ASCO….you can check out my blog post on June 2.  Wishing you the very best.  Celeste

Thanks for the info, I was looking at Pd1 but have to try Ipi first. My doctor says she is almost certain that it will be approved this year. I have Dr Kuchikar now but she is leaving so I may have Weber

I was in an anti-PD1 trial with Dr. Weber at Moffit for 2 1/2 years.  I follow-up next with him in March.  He's a good guy and a brilliant MD.  Best of luck.  C
