My husband was just switched over to braftovi/mektovi after a hospital stay for large pleural effusion… does anyone have advice on this combo? Also, his oncologist is interested in continuing him on opdivo at the same time at the braftovi/mektovi but I cant seem to find much info on this? Thanks!

Here is a post I put together that includes links to several additional reports on BRAFTOVI/MEKTOVI: https://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2018/06/well-okie-dokie-braftovimektovi.html Perhaps those will help, but you may find more info if you search under the names – Encorafenib with BinimetinibResearchers have been looking at combining targeted therapy (BRAF/MEK combos) with immunotherapy (Opdivo, Keytruda or Yervoy) for the past several years. Here is a post I put up on the topic earlier this month and includes links to prior reports: https://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2019/08/treating-melanoma-by-combining-targeted.html
Hope that helps. Celeste

HI – my husband has been on Tafinlar (dabrafenib) since 2013 and added Keytruda in Spring 2018. The combo cleared up the resistant mets in his body. He’s tapering off Taminlar but will remain on Keytruda until 2020. Hope this works for your husband. Take care.Ann

Hi there. I was on three months of Opdivo July 2018 – October 2018, and my tumor grew. Found out that I’m BRAF+ so my Onco put me on BRAF/MEK around the end of last October. Felt like I had the flu for about 3 straight weeks, then things started getting better. I still have bouts of nausea and fatigue, but long story short, the targeted therapy shrunk my tumor to the point that they removed in May 8, and the pathology showed no viable melanoma. So after about 6 months of the targeted therapy combo, I’m NED. Going back for scans this Sunday and Monday, planning to be off the pills in October, then scans again in November, but so far, it’s been a success story for me. Good luck to you and you’re husband!
