Have initial consultation with surgical oncologist at Mass General coming up after referral from general dermatogist where LO received initial diagnosis from punch biopsy of tumor thickness greater than 4mm, high miotic rate and ulceration Not seen.  Am wondering what to expect for initial consultation.  Have not met with any medial oncologists yet.

I would see a specialist in Melanoma.  Melanoma can be tricky and a regular oncologist may not know enough about melanoma.

I see Dr Ryan Sullivan at MGH and I am quite confident in his opinions and guidance as a Melanoma onc.  Good luck!

I had a second opinion with Dr ryan Sullivan (don’t live in Boston, but lots of Boston ties so went there for 2nd opinion), and I really enjoyed my visit with him. Great bedside manor, explained things in a way that was very easy to understand and put us at ease… way more than my actual onc.

I was diagnosed at stage 2A in June and have been seeing Dr. Alex Haynes at MGH Cancer Center.  He's fabulous.  I've also been checked by Dr. Hawyrluk at the Melanoma and Pigmented Lesion Center at MGH.  Good luck!
