    My wife noticed a spot on my back Monday night….Tuesday morning I went to the dermatoloogist and she removed it….now I'm waiting…she said it could be melanoma….it didn't appear deep but I'm scared to death…..We have a three year old son who I want to be there for….I cant eat or sleep…..

      ray39, I know how you feel. It may not help you relax but try not to worry until the results come back.  There's nothing you can do in the meantime but spend some extra time with your family.  I had a stage 3 removed in 2006 and felt the same way while waiting.  In 2012 it returned as a stage 4 but I'm still around to continue fighting.

       

      I hope everything turns out benign, stay strong.

      ray39, I know how you feel. It may not help you relax but try not to worry until the results come back.  There's nothing you can do in the meantime but spend some extra time with your family.  I had a stage 3 removed in 2006 and felt the same way while waiting.  In 2012 it returned as a stage 4 but I'm still around to continue fighting.

        I'm trying to stay as calm as I can. I wish I had asked more questions yesterday but my mind was in a fog.  Did she crake out the entire growth? Is the fact I didn't need stitches, just a band aid to cover it mean it was small? I the fact it's less than a 2mm deep hole good?

        No stitches means it is a shave biopsy, nothing else.  You can't assume anything from how the biopsy was done.  Visual diagnoses are iffy at best.  She is ruling out melanoma.  This could just be an atypical lesion that is benign.  Take a deep breath, because everything is still an unknown until you get a pathology report.  Just so you know, most biopsies are not melanoma.

        She actually dug out the growth.  I have a hole there.

Removing a melanoma in its very early stages has a very high success rate. When you get the report, post the results here and you will get some honest feedback… I am sure Janner will give some good insight.

When I was losing it my doctor gave me a prescription sleeping aid to allow a solid nights sleep which allowed me to think more clearly after being well rested. Good luck.

      Hi ray, I’m 19 and I was diagnosed with stage lll melanoma about a month ago. I’ve learned that attitude is key. Don’t think negative. No matter what the results are, just stay positive!
