    Well the right groin lymphenodectomy in January went well — they took 15 out altogether, and the only one that was positive was the one original sentinel lobe….and that one had just a very minute number of micro mets. Currently have some mild lymphadema that is being address with massage and PT. Feeling great at this point, and went back to work yesterday!

Currently have some mild lymphadema that is being address with massage and PT. Feeling great at this point, and went back to work yesterday!

    Getting ready to start Sylatron next week, and was wondering if anyone could share their experiences and strategies for dealing with the side effects. Hopefully, I will be able to tolerate it long enough for it to be beneficial…

    Also, for those of you who sit  and work at the computer all day, what worked best to keep the leg swelling down as far as seating, elevation, movement etc.?

    Thanks! Although I don't post often, I do read the posts and I am truly inspired by the people on this board! It is a great resource!

      Lynn, it is great that your surgery went well. Hopefully other people will chime in and give you their opinions about dealing with lymphedema.

      As you may know, the use of interferon is controversial although some oncologists continue to recommend it.

      Keep your leg elevated as much as possible – perhaps on another chair.

      Ideal is to have your leg higher than the level of your heart.

      Wear a compression stocking. Graduated compression from your foot

      on up the leg but take it off at night and elevate the leg in bed.

       

      Hope this helps!

      hi Lynn,

      I don't have any advice for you, but just wanted to tell you that you've got a cheerleader up in Canada living a parallel life! — I had a left groin lymphadenectomy three weeks ago (one of which was positive).

      I've got a bit of lymphedema too, but my very attractive graduated compressive stocking is helping somewhat. 

      Brave you for heading back to work. I'm going to wait & see how well I tolerate the Interferon.
