Hi just want ask you all for your opinion.
Recently my dad saw his neurosurgeon who told him that his latest MRI (after 4 months) was clear (hooray). He also asked if dad was going to have radiation. Apparently the neurosurgeon and the oncologist work independent of each other so he was not aware that my dad was on vemurafenib. When on a trial can you have WBR? Does anyone think it's worth considering? Do we have any evidence that vermurafenib crosses the blood brain barrier?

I know that we are in a good place at the moment and I am so grateful, I just want dad to have access to something more durable while the disease is at bay (so to speak). I don't think you can move onto anything else until the disease progresses.
Thanks in advance
Nahmi from Melbourne

Nahmi, if your dad has a clear brain MRI I can see no need for WBR. Radiation treatment
can have significant side effects, and it has to be considered in light of any potential
benefit to the patient.I am not certain if vemurafenib (Zelboraf) crosses the blood brain barrier, as it
appears to act indirectly on brain mets. See:

They found a big brain tumor in my husband last week. It’s too big to remove. His dr. Has worked with zalboraf trials for awhile and has seen it work on brain tumors although officially there is no data on it. I know you have to be off of zalboraf for a week before any type of radiation. I’d check with the oncologist to see his opinion.
