Anyone on this board following the alcaline diet? According to my Nurse practitioner the PH levels in our bodies and cancer growth are directly related. Apparently PH  of 7.2 and above are  alcaline that does not feed the cancer; and the opposite, PH levels  below such as  6.9 , 6.8 etc  are acidic and promote cancer growth.

Certain food groups are considered acidic, neutral and alcaline

Acidic: meat, poltry, fish ,eggs, diary, grains and achohol

    Neutral:Natural fats, starches and sugars

    Alcaline: vegetables,fruits, logumes and nuts

It is a well know fact that sugar and carbohydrates are cancer feeding food group and should be consumed in moderation/avoided. However I have a hard time to wrap around my mind quitting cold turkey meat, diary, fish, eggs, grain ,carbohydrates and switching on to veggetables, fruits and nuts only.

Any advice or recommendation what a healthy, sensible, balanced diet shoud be? Can all food groups be indluded in it to achieve PH levels of 7.2 and above? This whole subject got me thoroughly confused at how I should proceed with my food diet. Oh apparently PH levels are measured with a litmus paper PH test .Thank you

I think you need to fire your Nurse practitioner Anon, and seek some advice from a Melanoma expert. Did your nurse practitioner supply you with any scientifically proven data to go along with his/her advice???

My husband tried this diet at the very beginning of his cancer diagnosis. He learned pretty quickly that it is unrealistic to adhere to such a strict diet. He has cut back on alcohol and eats a healthy well balanced diet, with the occasional splurge. Sadly fad diets are not going to stop cancer. I feel the best thing to do is be sensible about your diet and enjoy life.

Ed is right!!!  You might read this article, based on real live melanoma patients, using real live science, the adverse effect acid reducing agents can have, and pass it on to your NP!!!

Eat a healthy diet.  Get the exercise you can.  Work and play as big as you can.  SEE A MELANOMA SPECIALIST!!!!!  If only a particular food, or diet, or magic potion could prevent or cure melanoma!!!  But, it can't.  I wish you my best.  Celeste

When my SLN biopsy found melanoma in a lymph node, I gave up alcohol.   Alcohol in moderation helps prevent heart disease, but it is makes cancer more likely.  When I lost too much weight with Yervoy-Opdivo immunotherapy, I ate calorie dense foods to gain weight.  I switched from skim milk to whole milk.  Now that I my weight is normal I use 1% or 2% milk.  Given my expected survival time I don’t worry about heart disease and eat what I want.

My aunt Ruth had stage 4 melanoma, before there were any effective treatments for melanoma.   After chemotherapy failed, she tried alternative and natural medicine.  Those did not save her.  I wish immunotherapy had been discovered in time to help her.

Your nurse practitioner needs to take a biochem class. — "First, a little chemistry: A pH level measures how acid or alkaline something is. A pH of 0 is totally acidic, while a pH of 14 is completely alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral. Those levels vary throughout your body. Your blood is slightly alkaline, with a pH between 7.35 and 7.45. Your stomach is very acidic, with a pH of 3.5 or below, so it can break down food. And your urine changes, depending on what you eat — that's how your body keeps the level in your blood steady.

The alkaline diet claims to help your body maintain its blood pH level. In fact, nothing you eat is going to substantially change the pH of your blood. Your body works to keep that level constant." — https://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/alkaline-diets

Thank you all for the input it has been very helpful. It looks like the most reasonable approach would be  to stick to a healthy balanced diet including all food groups  in moderation. Also I decided to cut off completely  alchocol and avoid  the simple sugars. Thanks once again to everyone
