Starting Anti-LAG-3 Trial At Johns Hopkins

    Hi Everyone,

I went to Johns Hopkins yesterday for the screening process, and everything looks good for me to start in the anti-LAG-3/nivolumab trial. Dr. Sharfman thinks I'll have a better outcome with the trial than I would have with the treatment my local oncologist had planned — radiation followed by more Keytruda. Apparently there have been a few melanoma patients in the trial who have gotten good results from the combo of the experimental drug and nivo. So I'm really feeling hopeful. The plan is to get the first infusion week after next.

Unfortunately it looks like I'll have to undergo another lung procedure prior to starting, though. BMS, the sponsor of the trial, wants a "fresh" biopsy prior to starting. The only things that are positive on me right now are my hilar and subcarinal lymph nodes, which were confirmed by a fine needle aspiration on April 6. But that procedure apparently isn't fresh enough, so it looks like another trip under general anesthesia for me. Still, you do what you gotta do, n'est pas?

I'll keep everybody updated as I go through this. If anybody else here is on or planning to go on this trial, please let me know. I'd like to share and compare notes with you.

    -Bill
