Hi, i wondered if I could possibly get some clarification. My hubby is stage 3a. There is no treatment at this stage in the UK, also no trials that he would be suitable for as the minimum requirement for eligibility seems to be above 1mm metastasis. Hubby was 0.5mm.

I guess I just wondered if there was any other way to get something like ipi at this stage? Whether Self funding maybe through a private oncologist? Or is it not even available that way? Don't know why I'm asking really as couldn't even afford to self fund if that was a possibility probably – I expect it would cost tens of thousands.

God I bug myself with questions!

    Thank you all x

      Hi,

Just checked clinicaltrials.gov and searched UK. Sorry there is nothing at the moment in this country even if you were prepared to travel.

IPI is hugely expensive and you would also have to pay for private consultations blood tests and  in theory for treatment of side effects.

You could watch out for any new trials but often treatment has to start within 12 weeks or so of surgery so unless something was registered soon. Another problem with stage 3 trials is that often one leg is placebo. I have personal experience of this in the UK…

Sequential treatment is a big area of research and IPI followed by nivo seems to get worse results than nivo followed by IPI. No info out there on IPI followed by IPI  nivo combo on progression as far as I can see.

Give it time to recover from the diagnosis shock. Best wishes for the future.

Thanks very much that's helpful. I hadn't thought about the impact of having immunotherapy at stage 3 on future immunotherapy should he need it. So that's good to know. I did hear about potentially restricting access to some immunotherapy if you've received it in a trial, (completely unethical!) and I guess these things are cons of treatment at stage 3 even it if was possible to access

I am just curious.. wouldn't .5mm be stage 1?    Was there another earlier lesion?

Sorry I probably wasn't very clear there. 0.5 was the diameter of the metastasis to the lymph node unfortunately
