Short hx: 2003 stage 1, 2007-2010 stage 3c inguinal nodes recurrence, iliac nodes recurrence, obturator nodes recurrence. failed interferon. Radical node dissection resolved issues. Numerous nodes containing mel. (Several surgeries).
Since 2010 have had clean scans every 6 mths then annual till now. Latest ct abdomen/pelvis: New enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes in the abd and pelvis compatible with metastatic disease. Also noted was multiple enlarged para aortic nodes, largest measuring up to 2.5×2.6 cm. Also enlarged iliac nodes 2.5×1.5 cm. Retrocaval node at level of kidneys 1.7×1 cm. Portacaval node 2.4×2 cm. In lung, a nodule went from prior scan 3mm to 9×8 mm.
So, i am sort of freaking out! How much trouble do you think im in? PET scan tomorrow (just got news tuesday).

First ((((hugs))))
Cancer treatment has come a long way since 2010. There are now three drugs, which are far better (fewer side effects, better effectiveness) than interferon that have been FDA approved in the last couple of years.
There are also other treatments in the pipeline. Melanoma treatment is a whole new ball game and the future is much brighter than it was even two years ago.

Scary sounding-but try to operate with what you know, which right now is little-the PET will tell you a lot
. My friend had breast cancer and then a year later a scan showed a spot on her brain. After a week of sleepless nights, they found it was really nothing.
I'm up at mayo now getting ready for my scans tomorrow and the doc told me that scans are good to point them in the right direction but until the pathologies come back the scans are just indicators. Praying for you

Your history could be my husband's! In December we found out he has 5 tumors plus 2 brain mets. I literally lost my breath and thought I had to prepare for the worst. Then, we got a great Mel specialist and found out about SRS and immunotherapy. Now our days are full of hope and making long term plans. Even after IPI failed, we remain positive. Stay strong, get a specialist and as others have already said, so many new treatment options since 2010, so keep the faith! Prayers for you!
