I'm sorry for you've got decisions to make as it's hard enough fighting this disease then add all the treatment stress to it.  I can only speak for myself – but Yervoy (formerly IPI) has kept me here on this earth.    I've don't look at statistics, nor do my drs. share it with me as I feel the only one that truly knows when it's my time is God.  Honestly, I've been fighting this disease since late 2008 with brain mets since 2009.   I know by what I've heard that by statistics I shouldn't be here but I'm blessed to still be fighting.  I did the IPI in clinical trial and didn't have much success, did it again after it was FDA approved and it worked greatly by shrinking all tumors and not having anymore mets at this time.  I currently have melanoma in my lungs, stomach and brain.   I was taken off the Yervoy due to the fact it was destroying my immune system but I'm going to be hopefully starting it again in the next week.  Also along with the IPI I did Temodar.  My side effects were pretty standard but I will admit the rash and itching drove me crazy.    I know everyone responds differently to each treatment and you have to decide what's best for you but for me personally I say IPI (Yervoy) totally rocks.

I will keep you in my prayers that you make the right decision for you and that you continue to fight this demon and that you can get into stablization, remission or even NED.  Remember anything is possible is you just believe.

Hi there.  Congrats on starting the Zelboraf.  Have you had any side effects?  I did the IPI but was taken off due to the fact it was tearing my immune system up.  I've been without treatment for over a month and am to start on the Zelboraf next Mon.  Are you doing the treatment for 6 months, correct?  Scans every 2?  Not sure if it's the same for everyone or not.  May I ask when you take your pills?  When doing the IPI I was also doing Temodar due to my brain mets so I've already lost my hear which I hear is a side effect of the Zelboraf.  However, in my battle with melanoma I've learned side effects are different for everyone.  I hope and pray this works for you and for all who are going to be on it.

                    God bless –

I've had 2 treatments of IPI, one in the compassionate trial and now since it's FDA approved.  Because the compassionate trial showed great improvement I was very glad that the FDA approved this drug.  To answer your question I was only without treatment for approximately 6 weeks before starting on it again.  I am finished with my 2nd round of treatment and am in the middle of doing all my scans and follow ups.  So far so good.  Will keep you in my prayers for good results.

Prayers for your wife, you and your family.  I appreciate you sharing your story.  I did have gamma knife which was unsuccessful.   I love your wife's motto as it's one of my favorites also along with never, never, never give up.  <3

Thanky you all for your responses.  I re-read my question and I didn't really relay what I was trying to ask, although a few answered it correctly.  I was wanting to find out other's experience with the IPI and if they did it more than once, and if so, how long in-between treatments.  Gene_S – not sure who your comment was for as I didn't say I had no side effects.  I'm also doing Temodar along with the IPI so my side effects are hard to separate if it's the chemo or IPI, however, the severe itching and rash is from the IPI.   Not sure what other information you need.  Prayers for all affected by this terrible disease.

Hi there.  I'm currently doing IPI and also did the compassionate clinical trial.  My side effects have been itching, rash and very tired.  I've found out this time around (as I do my 3rd infusion on the 18th) there's more pain where tumors are located as well as swelling and soreness.  I've been told that it does take sometimes a while to work as with my compassionate trial it did show some shrinkage in the tumors while yet others grew a little.  I was very thankful when the FDA approved this drug.  I was given lots of information from my doctor's on this treatment as I'm sure you will too.  My prayers are with you and your husband.
