I have had disagreements with some people using the Anon id, but I do support it's availability.to be used. It has many good usge to. Many times ladies hve come on withmelnome problems in the genitals and ben leary of giving out much info. This usage has benefited many. Most of them have learned that it is safe to talk about intimate locations more openly then they ever imagined, They r not alone, but they might not have posted if the Anon was not available at the start. I know a couple that have rubbed some others such that some would be negative jus

Some discussions of sex for melanoma patientshave arisen. I even posted as Anon in those discusions. Those posts were not negative nor "dirty", because sex is not a dirty word. It is a vital part of most peoples life and needs to be openly discussed here at times.
So while I do disagree with the recent negative Anon comments, I do support its ontinuation and am very proud of the way Jill and Eric was supported for the way they hve conducted themselves in this whole affair and for being the fine people they are. I suspect the supportive comments overwrote the negative feelings that were automtically felt by Jill.
Not really Anon. Just trying to get your attntion here.

Yes, I also agree with the availability of anonymous usage. I also understand that individuals can be upset and post negative comments. I do not understand further postings, harrassment, however. If I recall correctly, the MRF has the ability to trace the anonymous posts should they become problematic and ban the individual? That might be wishful thinking.

I don't know what it takes to ban an individual, but I know that the MRF has the ability to trace the Poster through their IP address. I do not necessarily agree with banning this anon at this time, but if caught early enough the post could have been pulled . I do not want to see any posts held up for review before appearing for us to read. Some sites do that. Don't want to see that here.
I think that our Director, Tim Turnham did a good job of showing the official position on posts like Jills. There could be private communications they make with such people without our being aware of all the hasseles (Hitnt to Tim and staff).
If such negative posts as this Anon are even made, they should be made on the Off-Topic BB, as CarolA did on her valid but irratted "rant" today. Good for you. That's what I did when i was atatcked on the Main board, I took it to the off-topic for the 250 responses.

Here's the thing, Melanoma Mom called someone a troll because they were posting anonymous. Yet even though she has a profile, she IS anonymous too. No one is giving out home addresses etc. All of the folks with nicknames are still anonymous and who knows if their profiles are real or made up? So whatever, if someone shares good information to think about, then let them be whoever they are because that's who'll they will be anyway!!

I totally agree with you Jerry. "Anon" has it's purpose, and quite frankly, we can tell who is abusing it. You cannot post without signing up, so if there are serious problems, we can trace it. I hold no ill will towards the "anon" who posted on Jill n Erics post. They may have an earlier stage disease, or may be new to the board. Hang around for awhile, and they will learn. I have watched many join, many post, and many pass since joining only 2.5 years ago. I would never leave this board because of one post… there are too many good people out there willing to cheer you on, celebrate when you succeed, or share your fear when things go wrong. For that I will be forever grateful. No matter what road mel will take for our family, I will be forever grateful for the day I found ALL of the people on this board. "Anonymous" or not.

Yes, the ability to post as Anon is a vital tool for several reasons.
For some, this is a secret place where they can openly discuss fears, anxieties and deeply intimate concerns without fear of discovery because that type of support and curiosity is not available to them in their daily lives without judgement.
For some, it is a sounding board and a springboard of discovery that may not be available to them personally as a wife, husband, offspring, parent, friend or sibling of someone suffering from melanoma.
For some, it is a new experience to avail themselves of the internet and they are cautious.
For some, it is important to remain discreet to protect business, family, insurance or doctor patient confidentiality relationships.
For some, it is important not to leave an internet trail that may later become problematic with an employer/employee relationship, pending divorce, insurance or disability reviews or appeals, some sort of potential or pending litigation or strain with the doctor/patient relationship in seeking second opinions or questions about ongoing care.
And some people are just shy; but regardless, it is important that this forum remain open to all and to embrace information and the sharing thereof…………….even when it makes some rise to the height of their pisstivity.
On a personal note, I myself have been guilty in the past of wanting to call out someone based soley on their being Anon. I have learned that is wrong in this type of forum.
Just because Toosenelda Wolfenpickle does not want to post their name here is not a singular reason to reject their thoughts or question their heritage or otherwise flame them.
