Has anyone incurred a new melanoma in the form of a mole on Zelboraf? My dad has a new mole that appears as a melanoma or it could be a wart which I know is common.
He is getting checked on Friday, however, am looking for feedback from the group. Thanks in advance!!!

I am glad he is getting the spot checked out–that is always best.
On Zelboraf some people develop one or more squamous cell carcinomas. These can look like a wart or mole, and are generally resolved with no lasting consequences.
Sometimes tumors mutate and become resistant to targeted therapy, but the mole would not likely be the first sign of this happening.

As Tim mentioned, Z can cause other growths! I didn't get any warts. Had additional skin tags develop. I also had 2 moles that either appeared or got darker. Not sure which.. but had both removed. They came back as a-typical.
So all good news that he's getting them checked out! I know on Z I was in to the derm @ Sloan every 4 weeks I think.

Since I've been on the Zelboraf, every mole on my body has changed. Some of the older, larger ones have faded and almost completely disappeared but I've also had a whole bunch of new small ones appear. However, none of them have been cancerous. I had one particularly suspicious looking mole from my back examined in a shave biopsy – it was black, irregular, and itchy – but it turned out to be a seborrheic keratosis and completely benign.
As always, the bottom line is to go see your dermatologist if you have any suspicions or doubts.

Good advice and decision about getting it checked out. I can add that for a period of some eighteen months, I was always getting warts removed; one did prove to be a squamous cell carcinoma. For me the warts were so common I used to kid with my dermatologist that she was part of my weight control regimen. Best of luck Friday. -
