    Greetings;

    I have been kind of miserable after my second treatment. I am getting NIVO every two weeks. Finally so miserable with soreness in all my sinuses, throat and coughing I went to ER. Diagnosis; Uvulitis; swelling of the uvula. Has anyone had that. Once doc looked down my throat he could see it was inflamed. Negative for strep and flu. Doc says no way of knowing if it is reaction to therapy or virus. Thoughts anyone. Had an oral steroid and it seems to have calmed down a bit this morning. Still lots of coughing and uncomfortable, and I really need to go back to work tomorrow. Any one with similar experiences?

    Thanks,

    Ted

      Hey Ted,

      I've been following and publishing data on side effects to immunotherapy (anti-PD-1 in particular) for many years ~ here's the last installation:

      In all of that, I've not seen any reporting of inflammation of the uvula as a side effect to immunotherapy.  Of course…lots of viruses can (as well as strep and flu…so it was good to rule that out) certainly cause it.  Sorry you are feeling badly.  Hopefully, you are only suffering from a nasy viral process and will be better soon.  I really think we melanoma peeps deserve a pass on all the regular sickness stuff!!!  Oh, well…  So…I don't have any data to support that your misery is due to your treatment…but as my melanoma specialist always said in regard to immunotherapy, "This stuff is weird!"  Not exactly comforting, but still!  I would certainly let your onc know what you've been through at your next visit!  Hang in there!  celeste
