I need to get an elderly Lady in
Laguna Hills, CA in contact with someone that can help her get a referral from Kaiseer to A melanoma specialist at UCLA.. Her Kaiser Onc told her that she stands no chance of survival with mucosal melanoma and that Kaiser will not refer his patients to UCLA for opinions nor treatment. This lady has not even had the WLE yet.

Jerry, it is so good that you are helping this lady. Kaiser does do referrals. We are Kaiser members and we did get a ref to, in this case, UCSF Melanoma Treatment ctr, but we had to ask for it, insist on it and have good reason. My husband could have been treated by Ksr, but we didn't like what they offered. Kaiser pays for the 1st ref. Referral is not supposed to be a problem if there is no satisfactory treatment that can be provided by Kaiser. There are a few poor quality docs @ Kaiser; our 1st onc was not a good fit and would have strongly resisted an outside ref. Your friend can get help from the Ksr Patient Advocate whom she can call/see and relate the problem (plus reporting this doctor for refusing to refer). The PA's are pro-patient, cut red tape and get her with an onc who will refer. I'm sure time here is an important factor. Hoping the best for her. A.L.

My husband was unable to get a referral from kaiser but it ended up ok since he is NED . Kaiser has certain outside hospitals they refer to and UCLA might not be one. Here in northern california they UCSF. She should at least see another Kaiser oncologist. Good luck.
