    I am a 5 year survivor of melanoma.  When I was first diagnosed I was on this site almost 24/7, and I can't tell you how much it helped me and gave me courage and knowledge.  

    I just watched the latest episode of Undercover Boss about a gym chain called Retro Fitness.

    I the opening couple of minutes, the CEO, Eric Casaburi, brags that his gyms offer tanning beds…of course I cringed, and thought to myself that here was another person obviously oblivious to melanoma.  

    I am a 5 year survivor of melanoma.  When I was first diagnosed I was on this site almost 24/7, and I can't tell you how much it helped me and gave me courage and knowledge.  

    I just watched the latest episode of Undercover Boss about a gym chain called Retro Fitness.

    I the opening couple of minutes, the CEO, Eric Casaburi, brags that his gyms offer tanning beds…of course I cringed, and thought to myself that here was another person obviously oblivious to melanoma.  

    However, In the very next minute or so, Eric reveals that his mother died when he was only 16 of MELANOMA!  Needless to say, I was horrified and outraged at the same time. I wrote an email to the company expressing my horror that they promote tanning beds and that tanning beds greatly increase the risk of melanoma,  and the CEO himself sent me this reply from his email address, ECasaburi@retrofitness.net:

     

    Do your homework it's safer than tanning in the sun and in a controlled environment. 

     

    Go to the facebook page for this company https://www.facebook.com/retrofitnessgym?fref=ts  and express your concerns.  One way to help save people from this deadly disease is to educate them about the dangers.  Knowledge is power.

      Good for you for writing the company! I am a 13 year stage 3 survivor who also watched that episode of Undercover Boss. I had the exact same reactions as you did while watching. I will CERTAINLY go to Facebook to comment based on the response you got back DIRECTLY from the CEO. It is one thing to not be informed about the dangers of tanning. Or not have melanoma touch your life so you don't fully understand the ramifications. But in this case, I see pure greed and someone falling to the pressures of what society wants. Here is a person who could make a statement put chooses not to.

I will CERTAINLY go to Facebook to comment based on the response you got back DIRECTLY from the CEO. It is one thing to not be informed about the dangers of tanning. Or not have melanoma touch your life so you don't fully understand the ramifications. But in this case, I see pure greed and someone falling to the pressures of what society wants. Here is a person who could make a statement put chooses not to.

        thank you SO much, Cara, I felt the exact same way, that's why I emailed him!

        there were MANY people who commented on fb about melanoma and when I just went to check to see if more were added, I noticed that they were almost ALL DELETED!

        I encourage everyone to flood his emails with the FACTS about tanning beds, they are NOT safe.
