Hello,
I completed a year of interferon about 2 weeks ago. I am already feeling much better but find myself very short tempered and impatient. I also have some joint pain that can be painful.
I go to work daily but I now want to sped more time at home and I am just not interested in crowds or gathering with friends or family. I am very thankful for my current NED status and want to move on with a full and normal life.

I have given it some thought and I feel that I went for cancer free to cancer treatment and now I am in a middle ground and may need to figure out how to handle this new area.
Just not 100% normal.
Have other experienced this? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Allen

Allen,
I can totally relate. The first month or so after completing my year was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was coming to terms with being in the "watch and wait" group after actively doing treatment for a year. I also experience extreme mood swings almost bipolar like up and down. It evened out after about a month.
Hang in there and be proud of your accomplishment. I'm now 2 1/2 years done with treatment and feel really good.

Hi Allen,
First of all, congratulations on completing your year of interferon! It's perfectly normal to feel as you do right now – it takes awhile for the body to recover and also common to feel in that middle ground "limbo". With time you will feel like your old self and in the meantime, just be good to yourself, exercise (walks,, etc) if possible, and start to do some things you really enjoy.
Wishing you many years of NED . .

My mom (58 years old) is starting interferon as her adjuvant treatment. Any advise? we are planning for her to keep working her summer teaching position (35+weekly hours). She will go to the hospital 5 per week for a one as the first part of the treatment.

I started interferon 2 weeks ago.. I am doing Peg interferon as recommended by my Melanoma specialist at SCAA. It is a once a week shot … I also have some side effects but find it very managable.. I take tylenol, drink lots of water and make sure I get enough rest. It allows me to work and also can go and visit w/o being tied to the clinic.
I am 62 and a school counselor.
How is your mom doing?
