So what is one to do?  We are in Hawaii 6 months out of the year, so being indoors all year round is not an option.  Protective clothing works for a bit, but can be sticky and warm.  So on those days I'm out in sun in my bathing suit, is sunscreen safe?  The sun seems like such a wonderful thing, I smile just seeing it shine and love the warmth on my skin.  It almost seems unnatural that something so wonderful can cause cancer.  Of course, too much of a good thing is never good; but is the alternative, oxybenzone, nano zinc, etc good?  Seems like lose/

My husband is a board certified dermatologist who has stage 4 melanoma.  I shared the posted article with him.  I will not share with you his exact explicatives but I will share this statement from him.  "Anyone who looks objectively at mainstream dermatologic literature realizes the benefits of sunscreen use far outweigh any risks. Someone out to prove otherwise can always find obscure statistics to support alternative opinions."   Just wanted to share another opinion with you.

On another subject…we are headed to Moffitt on Wednesday for his first Anti-PD1 infusion.  He is on the clinical trial MDX1106 without vaccines.  We appreciate good thoughts and prayers.  We pray and think of everyone on this board each day.  Peace to all!  Melissa

Good luck tomorrow. I had my 4th on the same trial today. Very friendly bunch in Tampa and I really like getting test results while still there.   Dan

                    Hi Melissa,

In my opinion many doctors today are being educated by sales reps. Follow the money!

Does your husband ever why he has melanoma?

I also have stage IV melanoma and I firmly believe that it was caused by the lack of sunlight since I worked 40 years at night ,sleeping during the day. It is no different if you are an indoor daytime worker, you need to get some sun or at least a vitamin D-3 supplement. I would be willing to bet that he has never been checked for a vitamin D-3 deficiency?

Here is some info for you two to consider…

Please note that  A. Bernard Ackerman, MD, is an exceptionally distinguished dermatologist and one of the world's foremost authorities on the subject of skin cancer.

                    Best wishes,

Gene, Please know that I totally respect and honor your sharing of information on non- conventional theories and treatments of melanoma.  We need all the traditonal and non-traditional information we can gather to help with this disease.  My husband (Peck)  actually knew Dr. Ackerman personally and respected him very much.  Peck personally  believes that the benefits of sunscreen strongly outweigh the risks.   He practiced medicine with this belief years before his diagnosis. His refusal to be "courted" by the drug reps has resulted in an abscence of sunscreen samples at his office.    As far as the cause of his melanoma, how will we ever know?  We do know that the first 25 years of his life(he is now 60)  was spent in southern Alabama and the panhandle of Florida, in the sun, completely unprotected.  Much of this time was spent as a "water rat"  in a lake.  As far as vitamin D, he agrees with you that most of us are deficient in vitamin D.  He was actually suppose to be tested and had to cancel because of a doctor's appointment.  We appreciate you reminding us to do this:)   We hope you are well, we are home from his first anti-PD1 infusion.  Now it is time to play  "catch up"  with the house duties.  Peace to you!  Melissa
