Just looking for any thoughts out there. Spent 2014 under the care of Yervoy. 2015 spent recovering and had a spot on my rights side of sternum begin to show up again byOct.2015. Had 7 doses of radiation into November and a checkup in Feb. 2016 showed it was dead. Oncologist wanted to see me in 6 months and I said 3 is fine with me. Cscan on Monday and appointment today shows the spot is back and active. Must look to surgery or cryoablation. Anyone out there have cryotherapy on bones or tumors on bones or on chest. Mayo is my port of call. Thanks

I have not had cryotherapy or ablation to bone. The one friend I have known with melanoma to bone had only a biopsy, then Yervoy. I wish this person had been offered surgery or cryoablation to remove that spot, and I feel it is a good thing. I will be hoping the best for you!
I wanted to ask you a quick question: Did the sternum cause you any kind of pain/discomfort? How was it diagnosed? I am trying to understand if bone metastasis has symptoms, and there is very little out there to say either way. My friend did not have pain or symptoms at all. I am wondering if there are other, different experiences?
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply. I originally had combo treatment of Yervoy and Interferon as a trial. It was brutal to say the least. The spot on my sternum was discovered on a quarterly pet scan that also detected a spot in my left auxillary area. That area had been giving me problems for quite some time but was always surgically removed. This time with the additional spot on my sternum my doctors (mayo) decided on the trial. The spot on my sternum looked inactive during and after the trials but then came to life the following yeat. It felt like a deep bruise and when I sneezed it felt like a torn chest muscle. After radiation it disappeared but a few months later I could actually feel it again and my cat scan confirmed it. My Doctors that followed me through my trial are now sending me back to Mayo. The rest of my scan remains clear but this spot is like the mother ship. My current Dr. thought the cryoabalation would be the next choice but we thought best to let the Mayo team put in there thoughts. Thanks for your kind thoughts!
