Hello. Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum. I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’m just scared to death right now.
I’m 29 years old. I hadn’t been to the eye doctor in a good 12 years. During the examination he found a large pigment that he was concerned enough to refer to a specialist for. I’ve got an appointment in nine days, but this is just so scary. I’ve researched some and I’m aware of the possibility that I could have a choroidal nevus or melanoma in my eye.
So many thoughts are running through my head in this waiting game. I’m a young man and I’ve never accomplished anything, so the idea that my life is in danger or cold be cut short is so frightening. It’s humbling. I honestly don’t know to react.
Again, I’m sorry if this is the wrong place. I guess I just needed to talk.

Did you ask your Doc why he referred you to a specialist?Or what kind of specialist?
It’s okay to freak a bit; but look at the facts at hand and not necessarily the internet; and most certainly do not jump to conclusions.
What YOU think is a possibility may not even be in the realm of possibility.
ASK your eye doctor what alarmed him, and why, specifically, did he refer you away and to whom and what for what reason. He is your doc after all.
Try not to jump to conclusions based on fear……………get facts.
Yes, the waiting sucks, but stay off the internet medical bandwagon and call whatever doc did the referral and ask HIM; knowledge is power.
And again, it is quite okay to freak; but you MUST work the problem; and sometimes that takes time………..and a big deep breath.
Cheers,
Charlie S

Thank you so much for responding
The eye doctor that found the pigment just danced around and wouldn’t tell me anything other than the pigment was large. I saw the image and the pigment seemed light brown, like a bruise. When researching online I learned about choroidal melanoma and choroidal nevus. When I called my doctor back, he just avoided speculating what it could be at all, and just keep saying “I don’t know” and when I mentioned concerns for cancer, he evaded me, which seemed to indicate that was his concern.
I have a terrible feeling.

Patrick;Glad you talked to the doctor. Charlie gave good advice. Most people on this forum who have been here for a long time have experienced the anxiety of having to “wait”. But the advice I am sure all of us will also give is to take it as it comes, don’t over think and let the anxiety of the situation take over your life. You don’t know that this pigment is anything until it is something. So, live your life until you get more answers to the best you can. Then come back and tell us how your appointment went!
Blessings and good wishes for a big non-cancerous answer!
