Hello Everyone. My husband was diagnosed with melanoma last summer – the surgeon removed the mole, then a second surgery to remove additional tissue and set clear margins, the sentinel lobe was positive for melanoma and it was also removed. He started immunotherapy (the original plan was once a month for 12 months), after two rounds he had complications (thyroid and adrenal glands) and his doctor recommended stopping immunotherapy. His scans in March 2021 showed no evidence of melanoma. After pain started in his armpit – the same area that the sentinel lobe was removed, he had a biopsy and the swollen node proved to be positive for melanoma. After additional scans we learned that the lobes around the cancerous lobe, although not enlarged, showed signs of abnormal molecular activity. We go in to meet with the surgeon tomorrow for a consult – we have been told the plan is to remove the cancerous lobe and the several lobes surrounding it. At this point, does anyone have any questions that they can suggest that we ask? I hate to think of this but does this change the stage of cancer he is in? Thank you everyone – I am so afraid and feel helpless.
