      Hi all

Has anyone heard of using photodynamic therapy (PDT) to treat melanoma?  If so, what have you heard?

Not a lot. Even with fiber optics to go inside to turn on the lights can only penetrate about a centimeter of a tumor. Same externally. Thus a person would need to have small tumors and not very many of them I would think. But if that is the case then it might be a viable option. Or maybe to get at a small one trickyly located. Currently only approved for Mel in a trial. They are looking into improving the affective range to be more than a centimeter.

Thats about all I could see about it. Is there a specific problem you are trying to find a treatment for? Maybe someone would know a way for that.

Thanks, Artie!  I was just asking because a well-meaning person phoned me out of the blue and told me that my husband "HAS" to go get photodynamic therapy because it will cure him.  I explained that we were comfortable with our excellent oncologist, who is a melanoma specialist, but it was an awkward conversation.  I'd never heard of it used for melanoma, but thought I'd ask on here, in case I was missing something.  I hope your foot feels better soon, Artie, I wish I knew what would help the nerve pain!
