Kristine is in the midst of tapering off steroids and has had a new side effect/symptom pop up. She has been feeling numbness in her right foot, and both legs from the knees down feel restless. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be a result of the tapering or the brain mets themselves? On a positive note, the other side effects she was experiencing (headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, etc.) have subsided.

Hi Cindy,
I had some numbness and tingling which was from edema in my brain post radiation. I'm not sure if this could be a side effect of tapering off steroids. I think this is worth a call to the doctor. Sending Kristine good wishes.

Thank you, Jennifer. She is seeing her radiation oncologist in the morning, so hopefully he will have some answers. I was just catching up on posts and saw your comment describing your seizure and it sounds a bit like what Kristine is experiencing. How did you know it was a seizure?

If Kristine has been taking SSRIs, the restless leg / nocturnal myoclonus may be the result. Tapering the dosage, or speaking with her physician about adding Mirapex (dopamine) may be worthwhile.
Neuropathy of the feet, if symmetrical, can have many causes, diabetes among them, which you will want to rule out if consultation with onco or neurologist does not produce desired results. Additionally, weight loss can cause a reduction in the protective fatty pads on the bottom of the feet, so a switch to more supportive footwear may also be advisable.
