    Recently diagnosed. Not sure where to start…

    My melanoma is on the back of my leg and is a T1A, Clark's level 3. The depth is into the pappilary dermis. Does this mean it is more likely to have begun to spread?

    Anybody had melanoma in that location? How bad is the surgery to remove it and what is the recovery time?

      Please post the Breslow depth of the mole, and whether or not it was ulcerated, and where it is located. Back of thigh, calf or ankle.?

        when the doc called with the pathology report, she didn't give me a Breslow depth or any other info. It's on the backside of my left knee (lower thigh).

        roughly 1/2 inch above where my leg bends.

      "T1A" is stage 1A.  The most important factor is depth, not the Clark's Level.  Stage IA implies there is no ulceration (for the other poster).  If you post the depth, we'd be better able to relate.  However, stage IA has an extremely high survival rate.  Surgical removal depends on location – some areas are tighter than others.  I've had 4 excisions from various areas of my legs.  Mostly just a pain dealing with stitches and tight skin.  But overall, not a bid deal.  Again, recovery time depends on location, but for me – none of the excisions kept me from doing normal daily activities.  I did lay off playing tennis for a bit while I had stitches in for two of them – the location was an area that was noticable when I moved.

        I'm newly diagnosed too.  Still waiting to be staged.  Just had WLE and SNLB (groin) last week.  Lots of swellng from SNLB but otherwise doing ok.  Mole was removed from back of my calf, 0.95mm depth, and Clark's level 3.  Really hoping for positive news as I have young kids.  Won't get my results for a month.  Is that a normal wait?

        I'm not sure about the wait time. My initial biopsy took about a week. I just had surgery yesterday and the were going to send what they removed to the lab to make sure they got it all (clean margins).
