    Hi everyone,

Well we got my dads scan results today and it looks like after nearly 7 months Vemurafenib is loosing effectiveness.

Scans showed 1 x mm increases in the spleen, large lung tumor gone, 4 x liver tumors stable, sub fat x 3 increased by a few mm's. Nothing over 15mm as yet.

One new growth 10mm in the fat near buttock but hasn't been positively confirmed but I have no doubt that it's Melanoma.

Well we all cried and still feel really sick in the stomach after the trials nurse tells me we need to act quick as the decline can be rapid. Great….

So dad's oncologist has recommended via the nurse (he is overseas) that dad stay on Vemurafenib until he can get into Roches Vemurafenib/MEK combo (should be within a month). Really scared that maybe the MRI won't be good then what do we do? Hopefully that wont be the case. They don't like you asking many questions, re: treatments, I asked about ANTIPD1 and they don't know much about it but don't believe its running in Australia. Anyone here is AUS that knows whether that's the case?

When I asked what plan C is if MEK fails the oncologist said "I can't read the future……" that was very unnerving as well.

Any suggestions? Anyone doing well after failing MEK?

    Nahmi

Hi James thanks for your reply, do you know if this person started on the combo or went from failing braf to the combo BRAF/MEK. Thanks in advance for keeping an eye on PD1 trials.

Everyone who contributes to this board are really supportive and wonderful.

        Thank you

Hi Nahmi, the person i know started with the BRAF / MEK Combo, i will check Monday about PD1 for you. I looked up Melanoma Institute Australia website and they have a E7080 Trial which is another inhibitor, you could always call them and find out about that Trial maybe its available in Melbourne too.

        cheers

I have this link here about B raf/MEK…it looks like the MEK is to control the secondary cancers…but I am no expert on this combo….http://www.cancernetwork.com/melanoma-skin-cancer/content/article/10165/2020914

but seems that if Braf isn't working why would they consider continuiation of it…with or without MEK.    I am in an anti pd 1 trial (MDX 1106).

I have no idea, I think Australia is so behind the States, we just don't have the trials you guys have over there. I would love for dad to get into an ANTIPD1 trial but there are currently none here according to the clinic.

Feeling really flat, I love my dad.

        Hi Nahmi,
Therr is currently a Merck anti pd-1 trial running here (Sydney), though I am told it is closed. I know the frustration of bring behind the US too. I would expect that the trial would be expanded if the results are promising. I’d love to be involved too!
