Is it normal to have moles on the gum?  I realized that a mole appeared on the gum of my 6 year old daughter.  It is small but I read it is better to have it removed giving its location.  I am taking her to have it checked this Friday but just want to see if anyone here has any thoughts or experience with this.  Thanks.

It is not uncommon to have benign moles in this area. However, I would want it removed and checked out. My son had melanoma on his tongue which is very very rare.

ps Dont google oral melanoma…it will only scare you ! And it is very unlikely that is what it is

Thansk Becky.  I guess we will see what happens on Friday but I would like to have it removed and biopsied as well.  I am just worry about the procedure – perhaps at an oral surgeon's office – and how my daughter would react to it.
