WIth my hubby having surgerey for tumor removal on Friday, with Sentinal node biopsy, I'm thinking ahead. If the tumor cells have spread to the noded we will be looking  for melanoma specialist. Since we are in the Hudson Valley I am thinking SKM. Is there more than 1 specialist there? Is there anyplace else in the NY, CT area we shud consider? Jean

I'm sure Sloan-Kettering will have more than one melanoma specialist whom you can consult. Additional melanoma treatment centers in your area are listed here:

Good luck to your hubby on Friday.

      Jean,

You may want to look into:

      SKM ..Dr. Jedd Wolchok

      Yale Ct ..Dr. Mario Sznol

Also you should have the tumor checked for mutations.

If BRAF positive, then  Dr. Keith Flaherty at MGH in Boston

      Best regards,

Perfect timing.Just this hour got back from NYU-Cancer Institute in NYC.Had first meeting with their top specialist Dr.Anna Pavlick.Feel I could not be in better hands.Went out of the way to see I had new Cat sacns & Brain MRI  done today. She has the credentials and patient skills that I trust my life to.You are treated as a patient and person by everyone there. As opposed to my experience at SMK.There I felt only as a potential clinical trial number. For me at this point I would definitely choose  NYUCI.They take such an intrest in you that tomorrow the Dr. will call and give me the results to the tests.Any questions you have I may be able to answer you can email me at  putnamvalley@optonline.net    Prayers go out to you both.     Al

For over two years, I also have been a patient of Dr. Pavlick. She and her staff are great; I am treated as if I am her only patient. In my opinion, it would be very difficult to find any better care.

I hear great things about NYU.  I am treated Sloan Kettering (along with several others on the board).  They have about 6 Melanoma specialist.  I see Dr Dickson – who is great!  I think when you set up an appointment there you get whoever is available (unless you want to wait for someone).  Then you stick with that doctor.  They (like several other places) all review the cases together.

Positive thoughts and prayers your way!

Hi, I too am treated at Sloan and think the care there is fantastic. I am a patient of dr. Wolchok and he couldn’t be more caring, in addition to his amazing creds. Went to Yale-new haven w/ Dr. Sznol. He too is amazing & his whole team is just great. Also @ Sloan is my onc. Derm, Alan Halpern. Love him too.
Just so u don’t think I’m on 1 big love-fest here, started this journey @ North Shore/LIJ, dislike treating doc & the whole place! I’ll always wonder if I had gone to Sloan first, would I have had such a quick re-currance, but I try to remember “don’t look back!”
      Good luck,

Best of luck with the surgery.  My brother is under Dr. Ott's care. He is Dr. Pavlik's associate at NYU.  He is leaving NYU

within the next few weeks.  We have had contact with Dr, Pavlik and she is wonderful.  Amazing, caring doctor.  I heard that she has had a family member pass from cancer so understands what her patients go through.  The patient care at NYU is amazing.  That is very improtant.  Also, Dr. berman is the best !!!!!!  He is amzaing.  this is the typr of doctor you call anytime…any question…..even if it is to ask how long do I boil an egg.  I mean it.  kepp us posted.
