My husband had radiation on spine tumours, that is usually very effective in shrinking tumours. In his case, the inflammation that followed the radiation caused a fracture so then he had spine surgery to fix it all up. That area is fine now, he has recovered very well from the surgery in August.
Ideally, immunotherapy treatment along with radiation will solve the issue but surgery followed by radiation might also be suggested
good luck

Two weeks ago my scan revealed the source of the back pain I had been dealing with. I have a 3.5cm tumor messing with T-5 and a smaller tumor on t-1. It was explained to me that radiation is good to knock the tumor back and prevent paralysis and other problems caused by pressure on the spine. They gave me one radiation treatment and over the last week and a half the pain has gone away. The issue they explained is melanoma can be a bit resistant to radiation. They aslo said my t-5 tumor is inoperable because it is growing in and on rib 5 as well. The best treatment option I have heard of is IPI + NIVO combo. They will monitor my situation and may hit the spine stuff with another radiation if the pain comes back. Otherwise, the combo is the best treatment option to get it to go away. My first dose will be January 5th.
Wishing you the best.
