    Hello All,

    Hello All,

    I have had a small lump (pea sized) on the outside of my elbow for quite some time.  I can't remember if it was there before my cancer situtation started.  I was wondering if anyone knows if we have lymph nodes in the elbow region (outside of elbow)  about and inch and a half from the tip of the elbow?  Has anyone had a lymph node swell in this area due to the melanoma?  I know that its not the common regions for lymph node involvement.  I had a complete lymph node disection in both armpits and melanoma was found on both sides.  I am concerned that it could have traveled down my arm.

    I don't want to panic but I guess I should go see my onclogist.

      Hi Mark,

      In my 6 years here, I have not heard of someone having swollen nodes in the elbow so I am certainly hoping its nothing or a slight infection. That said, there are lymph nodes near the elbow, specifically on the outside (tricep side) of your arm. Melanoma is sneaky and unpredictable, as we all know, so I would get it checked.

      I'm sending good thoughts your way that its nothing. I've had many spots on my liver, both lungs, and breast, that turned out to be benign so not every bump or spot is melanoma. Hoping yours isn't.

      Mark,

      I've had nodes traveling down the ulnar nerve (funny bone nerve). The ast one was approx 2 inches above the elbow but on the inside of the arm (against body). 2nd day into radiation I spotted a lump approx 1 inch below elbow.  Was told that it could be a lymph node (the run up and down the arm but not sure if exactly on the elbow). Nothing showed up on scans or fna but since it was so close to the last one they excised. Fatty tissue!  I hope that's what yours is.  I couldn't say either if it was there before or not but my oncologist took it very serious.

      Hope yours is like mine and just a benign nothing!  I ended up with 3 distinct nodules when removed.

      I'm assuming your primary was on the trunk somewhere?  The lymph vessels flow from the fingers up to the armpit.  I'd think it is highly unlikely that you'd have melanoma in a lymph node in the elbow area from a primary on the trunk.  It's going "against the grain" so to speak.  Not saying it can't happen, but I'd think it much more likely to be something else.  If it bothers you, it's time to check it out!

        Hi Janner,

        My primary was on the centre of my back.  Hence why it travelled to both underarms lymph node basins.  I will get it looked at to make sure.  Thanks for writing.

        I know that mine went against the grain. Stage IV since 06 and then went to the lymph nodes in 10' . First one went behind clavicle on right side, 2nd one went to node on right arm along the nerve and then 6 months later another went to another node going towards the fingers.  It doesn't make sense but……    I've often wondered if the nodes on the arm are a recurrance from a different primary that was on the arm.

      Like others said, it's unlikely that this is Mel since lymph fluid travels up (or at least tries to travel up in my case), but  Mel can  do his own thing  so have it checked out.

      I had 2 lymph nodes removed from below my elbow when I had my SNB.  They came back negative, but the 2 other lymph node in my arm pit didn't — SIgh.  But my primary was on the back of my hand.  So it made sense (if any of this can..)

      I totally know this fear.  After I had my lymph nodes removed from my right arm about a week or so after I felt this lump in my elbow – maybe about the size of a grain of rice and it HURT like no tomorrow.  I had 3 oncologists look at it and all looked at me like I was crazy 🙂  but still checked it.  It was nothing and eventually went away.  I'm not sure what it was…  and hopefully it's nothing for you too!

      I totally know this fear.  After I had my lymph nodes removed from my right arm about a week or so after I felt this lump in my elbow – maybe about the size of a grain of rice and it HURT like no tomorrow.  I had 3 oncologists look at it and all looked at me like I was crazy 🙂  but still checked it.  It was nothing and eventually went away.  I'm not sure what it was…  and hopefully it's nothing for you too!
