Hello everyone! First of all I want to send prayers and good vibes 2 everyone. Quick question, on 12/29 I had a SNB and WLE with 2 nodes removed frommy groin, both negative as well as clear margins. I follow up with my surg. Oncologist on the 16th. About 3 months ago I had a terrible tooth abscess that lead to severe facial and jaw swelling. After i had two teeth removed most of the swelling went down except a small lump on my jaw. When I press on the lump it moves around and sometimes feels like it disappears, but it always comes back. Should I be worried ? I do apologize if I sound crazy, i have become extremely anxious since this whole melanoma thing started.

I would def get it checked out.  I to had some dental work done due to an abcess.  Six months later I had a lump to appear on jaw/neck area.  By the time I had it checked out, I was stage 4 mel.  Could have just been a conincidence, but you should have it checked.  Unfortunately the melanoma has now spread to my sinus cavity and after several failed treatments, I'm in a clinical study.  Just to be on the safe side, you should call your onc.  Good luck!

It would be very unlikely to be related to melanoma since your primary was on your lower extremities I assume based on the groin SLNB. Your nodes were clean and your PET scan was clean… if it was something large enough to get picked up it would have showed up on the PET. Doesn't hurt to mention to your onc when you see them, but don't stress about it too much.

Thanks for your response. I haven’t had a PET scan… I am wondering if one will be ordered at my post op visit.

Oh, sorry, brain is a little foggy this morning, thought I read that in there. Yes you should be getting one, ask about it if they don't bring it up.

I was told Stage 2 before I had the WLE, but I have been told since then that I am Stage 1b as the breslow was 1.5mm with no ulceration. It was on my right outter thigh.

Look up "reactive node".  Node that swells based on trauma like your absess.  It may never go back to it's normal size.  Very unlikely related to your 1b melanoma – location makes sense for tooth issues but not for melanoma located on your thigh.  PET scans most likely won't be offered.
