I was scheduled to start the Nivo + Ipi trial next Monday. Today I received a call from my oncologist saying that it was now closed. She didn't get me to sign the consent form last week during my consult so the company is refusing to let me in the trial. My only chance is if another patient backs out this week.
My other option is to participate in another trial with Keytruda plus Epacadostat. I have never heard of Epacadostat but my oncologist explained that the response rates are similar to the ipi/novo combo but with way less toxicity.
Is anyone on this trial? Any thoughts?
Mark

Hi Mark,
How frustrating. Is this the new trial mentioned ?
https://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT02752074
if so you may get keytruda plus placebo or keytruda plus Epacadostat.
Keytruda is showing better results than nivo as a sole agent- and it looks like better results if pd 1drug followed by ipi or ipi at the same time rather than ipi as first line then pd 1.
The second trial does have lesser side effects in all probability and is likely to get a better response than ipi as a sole agent.
If you really want ipi nivo guess you could contact the trial sponsor and say how disappointed you are- sometimes people are not allowed to join trials as they get screened out by exclusion criteria – and if you hit the phones at the right time then you might get lucky – but again keytruda may do what you need without risking the greater side effects.
Whatever happens- be lucky.. BTW if oncologist is saying similar response rates- ask for the evidence -AND get a copy of the trial proposal so you understand what you are considering ?
Really sorry you are having this additional anxiety to dw.

Hi Mark,
I was going to participate in a trial using Epacadostat in combination with another checkpoint inhibitor. The IDO inhibitor works along the same lines as ipi and the PD-1 inhibitors. It's another pathway to allow immune cells to infiltrate the tumor. It sounds very promising to me, and its something you should consider. I am curious though. Are you in Canada, because ipi + nivo is already FDA approved?
