Joint pain on braf/mek… reason and relief

My husband barely gets out of bed. The joint pain is very bad even though he’s on half doses. I was hoping the pain would go away but it’s haunted him for weeks.

Does anyone know WHY this happens? We like to understand what’s going on.

Does anyone know how to make it better? Marijuana used to help but there is a lump in his lungs the doctors are worried about so they asked him to stop smoking everything because it causes inflammation.

I’m sad seeing him so unhappy.

Has he tried edible marijuana or other ways to get the medicinal effects without smoking?

Tumeric is also natural and helps alleviate joint swelling, using it in juices, foods, smoothies daily is one natural way to go. Pineapple is also an anti-inflammatory.

A non-natural way is high dose ibuprofen, but that has it's own nasty side effects.

Not sure of the WHY though, maybe someone else has a better answer to that question.

Also, I would email or call his doctor and ask them why he's dealing with all this joint pain and what they recommend to help alleviate it.

Sorry you and your husband are dealing with this.  Speaking with your oncologist is certainly essential…so they can fully understand the limited improvement to the side effects your husband is experiencing.  Side effects to BRAFi can be addressed with a drug holiday, decreased dose, alternate dosing schedule, as well as steriods.  Here is a link to a discussion by two melanoma experts:  http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2015/09/side-effects-and-how-to-manage-them-in.html

Perhaps you can talk to your husband's oncologist about some of these options.  Celeste

Ask your doctor to test for Rheumatoid Arthritis. My husband only had four doses of Nivo when his RA factor was off the charts. Now he's on steroids and Celebrex. Prayers to your family.
