My hubby may lose his job. We have had excellent insurance that allowed me to go to MD Anderson as “in network”, covers my ipi and testing here at home, etc. HAS ANYONE HERE RECEIEVED TX FROM ACA? HOW HAS IT BEEN?

I have individual insurance with ACA in California. I have Blue Shield. Has been great for seeing my specialist and getting treated where I want to. I have noticed that some places do not take the individual plans, I've been lucky that every specialist I have wanted to see takes it no problem. If you do need to sign up with ACA, make sure to talk with someone at MD and ask what plans they accept so you sign up for one that is in network for them.

            Hi,

No Texas individual plans cover MDA in-network any more.  If your husband does lose his job then I hope COBRA is an option for you for 18 months at least.

We are facing this situation at end of June when COBRA runs out.  I left my job to care for my husband 18 months ago.

Haven't figured out what to do yet.

            Good luck!

            Maria

If you are not living in Texas then this may not be an issue for you.

Hi, Michelle. I was told by the good folks at MDAnderson that they do not accept ANY individual Marketplace plans. We paid cash for the consult, scans, re-staging, etc. That was in Sep 2016. It's a shame, really, because it was an overall good experience with them. Good luck.

You are right, it is a terrible shame.  I believe it is the insurance companies who have decided that MD Anderson is too expensive and are not including MDA in their networks for individual plans.  Not MDA not accepting but more the insurance companies not including MDA so then they can't accept their plans.

You are correct, the insurance companies themselves have excluded certain hospitals. Recentely I had to find a new obgyn because mine partnered with Stanford and I then found out that Blue Shield took all of Stanford and its doctors off its individual network when the ACA went into effect. Very frustrating, thankfully I don't go there for my mel specialists and where I do go is a-ok with Blue Shield, phew!
