I had my 3rd. infusion today and up to now i haven't had any side effects. Now i have some small rashes and lots of itching. To those of you that have had the itching, how long does it last (days, weeks, months, etc.) and what helped alleviate it the best. This is an amazing place to go and it has meant a lot to me and i am sure everyone feels this way.
Thanks

Hello,
My husband has been on Ipi for 2 years now after the initial 4 doses in 12 weeks he has gotten Ipi every 12 weeks. He still get the rash and itching which sometimes is worse than others. Also with the winters his skin seems dryer and that just adds to it. About the time it seems to be getting better he gets another infusion of the Ipi and starts all over again.
He doesn't complain because he is NED for about 6 months now and we are very happy with this so the itching doesn't really matter to him it is worth the price.

When I did Ipi, the itching started one week before the second infusion and lasted thru the whole treatment. I also developed a rash on my upper chest, neck, both sides of my face and sometimes I would wake up in the morning with swollen eyes. To alleviate the itch I used Aveeno oatmeal bath and Gold Bond medicated powder with menthol, and the combination did work some. Unfortunately, Ipi did not work for me.

Hi,
Different remedies work for different people; first make sure your doc is aware of the rash and its severity. A lot of people find relief in oatmeal baths. Sarna lotion is mentholated; I got temporary but very welcome relief from that. Tepid, not hot, water is best for bathing. My doc prescribed Atarax, 25 or 50 mg; antihistamine…sedating but great at night. If you do a search of “rash” or ” itch”, I’m sure you’ll find a lot if useful information.
As for duration, I remember it taking about a month after 4th infusion before it got better. Again, please make sure your onc knows what’s going on; occasionally people’s rashes require low doses of steroids…when on Ipi your onc needs to know about every side-effect. (When I had diarrhea, I literally had to tell them about every bowel movement!)
Good luck and please keep us posted.
