Find a good melanoma Dr. now while you are still stage IIA and then if things get tough you will already have that much in place. Might be good to fill in your profile with as much information as you have. Such as location of mel, when it all started, where you are located and if you don't have get copies of pathology reports and the like. Much of this information is needed if you have a specific question your are asking about.
There are many helpful people on this site if you have specific questions. Most on here started somewhere with a lot of scary thoughts and worries about this disease so they know where you are coming from.
I am the caregiver and it was very scary for me as well but I am sure much worse for my husband. Good luck with your battle.

You have come to a good place. There many people who have been where you are and can answer a lot of your questions. I’m also stage II. I was pretty scared when I was diagnosed almost a year 1/2 ago and am currently NED. Are you currently being seen by an oncologist and /or dermatologist? As stated above a good doctor that knows about melanoma is important. If you have any specific questions ask and someone will answer.Scot

Welcome to the site. I have found the members here a great support in my time of panic, everyone really helped me through. I was diagnosed in January with MM, had the WLE and SNB, outcome – negative. I don’t remember my doctor ever telling me what stage I was in, however, like you, my Breslow was 1.2 as well, on my right leg. So am I Stage IIA? I thought I was Stage 1…..My Mel was not ulcerated…is that the difference?

Hi Natasha….
No additional treatments. Quarterly visits with my dermatologist @ Sloan Kettering and seeing my Melanoma Oncologist every 6 months. He said, after a year he would suggest a scan….sound right? What about you?? By the way, I was diagnosed Jan 3rd as well…..what a way to start off the new year huh?

No additional treatments for me as well. Yes ,I was diagnosed on 3d of January , all margins clear ,so docs decided do I need wide excision or not. Decided to go ahead so I had my surgery last week. I was told I will see dermatologist every 3 months for 1 year. I was not told about any scans… Seems I will be writing off from their list of patients after 1 year if I will be fine….
Have you had all body moles check by dermotologyst after your diagnosys ? I am still asking them to do it for me…Because I am very scared it can be another primary melanoma somewhere. I know double primary does not happen very often ,but still worrying.

I sure did….that's what led me to Sloan, a melonoma specialist in dermatology. I don't have a whole lot of moles to begin with, maybe 10, but every single one of them was suspect after my diagnosis. He checked my feet, toes, underarm, scalp….everything….very thorough and said I looked ok. I also went and got my eyes checked (I freaked about ocular melanoma too) and the eye doctor told me I was fine, but also showed me what ocular mel. looked like. For now I feel I am doing all I can do and as for the scans, that was not something my oncologist recommended however something "I" brought up….with that he said, in about a year. I don't know if you are in the states, but why can't you just book and appointment with a dermatologist and go? Why are you asking and waiting? I don't wait, I go…I actually had my melanoma specialist 2 days after being diagnosed, I wasn't f*rting around with some referred to dermatologist….maybe it's over the top, but I felt like I couldn't wait to be passed along……so if it makes you feel better going and getting every last mole checked, you should.

Hi, Kelli! Thanks for your reply ! I am in UK ,it takes ages here to get an appointment. Spoke to dermotologist ,she says she can check a mole ,if it changes or so ,but no full body check. I am tired to call and wait. I am on NHS system ,which is National Health ,is free , but very slow, I cannot afford to go private.
I think Docs are so laid back ,because my primary is just 0.2mm. So they suppose nothing can happen to me. I have a lot of moles on by body ..
Looks like Health care in States is much better ….
