My husband told me today that they found a small tumour in his lung on his last scan. He kept this from me for a month. I have a pretty bad anxiety disorder and i know he was trying to help me but oh my gosh! I need advice on how to not fall apart. How to go forward. What treatment should be do? Is this the beginning of the end?

Hey Amie – this very like is not the beginning of the end. There are great immunotherapy treatments available nowadays. Many, many on this board on now NED and they started a lot worse than your husband. Find the best melanoma treatment center in your area. Stay by your man's side, love him and all should end quite well

Hi Amie,
With very little to go on about your husband's status, I think I can still say with certainty…NO! This is not the end. I am now 15 years into my melanoma diagnosis and 8 years post brain and lung mets. I was in a nivo (Opdivo) trial from Dec 2010 – June of 2013. I remain NED with no further treatment. I know your husband was trying to shield you, but to endure life, marriage and melanoma…I think honesty will be the best policy going forward. Been there….done all of it. Treatments for melanoma have changed, in good ways, tremendously in the past 7 years. Here is a primer I recently put together:
Two head and hearts are better than one. Develop a team approach with your husband. You can do this together! Educate yourselves about legitimate melanoma treatment options. Be sure you are seeing a melanoma specialist. Recent changes in treatment options have left some general oncologists behind. Then…march forward together!!! It is not easy. But, there is hope and the two of you can certainly manage this together. Ask more questions as you need. Yours, celeste
