How to “advertise” melanoma

Forums General Melanoma Community How to “advertise” melanoma

I am getting a purse/tote embroidered with the black ribbon for melanoma and then I wanted something embroidered/written underneath it to encourage people to ask questions.

Some of my ideas so far: Survivor, Warrior, Mela No No (the name of my annual fundraiser)….

Fight the Beast is too long since it can only be 12 characters.

What do you all think would start a conversation?

      Thanks!

Great idea!  I like Surivor or Warrior.  I think both would prompt people to ask questions!

I have seen many people that HATE seeing the term Melanoma (or Cancer) Survivor.  Because that sounds like something that occurred in the past.  Personally that term doesn't bother me, but I do think that the term  SURVIVING MELANOMA"  does express that Melanoma is not a previoius incident, but is an ongoing journey!  I know this is over 12 characters, how about "SURVIVE MEL?"  This might be vague enough that people would tend to ask "What's that?"  Just a thought.

I like the name of your fundraiser…why not get a double hit with one term…increase melanoma awareness and spotlight your fundraiser at the same time?

Can I assume from your user name that you are in Chicago? If so, I know of a young woman located in that city who desperately needs a melanoma specialist. She is very young and has very limited insurance with high co-pays. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

It is nice that you want to spread the word. I have found whenever I get into a discussion about melanoma and other skin cancers that people know about it but just keep say yeah I know but still do nothing to protect themselves. They just don't want to hear it.
