Graft and winter sports

      Hello,

Today is my one month anniversary of my lovely 3 cm diameter nose graft.  My oncologist said no snowboarding this winter due to cold temps and risk of falling on face. Has anyone on this site with a skin graft on face been able to resume winter sports?

I had a graft to my foot 7 years ago, and recall my doctors enforcing very strict limits on my activities for about 2 months. These restrictions were focused on allowing the graft to establish a new blood supply. I was not even allowed to put my foot on the ground for 2 months in order to give the new blood vessels a chance to fully develop.

Given the "risk vs. reward" of going against your doctor's orders…I think you should absolutely sit this season out. Just imagine if your graft were to fail…would you ever want to have to go through all of that again?

          Best regards,
          Mark 2A

Thanks for replying Mark. I have accepted that I would not snowboard in 2018. I am glad the graft took, as you are right, I do not want to go through a redo.  Cold noses are a given on the slopes, so since I cannot feel a thing on the nose, I will look for another winter time hobby.

              Best wishes!
