      I was diagnosed in April 2011 with melanoma on my arch of my left foot.  Diagnosed at stage II.  I don't understand all of this and have read several postings.  I had surgery to remove and had lemph nodes tested.  Nodes all came back negative.  I have continued seeing dematologist and a cancer specialist.  They infomed my that they got it all.  How can you rest ones mind.  I lost a sister 15 years ago with melanoma as well.  Yesterday I found a bump, lump to the left of my sternum.  How would you proceed and what do you think I should do

          The bump next to your sternum is more likely to be something like a lipoma (benign fat tumor and very common) rather than melanoma.  Not to say it can't be melanoma, but that wouldn't be the most likely area of spread.  Are there any enlarged lymph nodes in the area where they tested the sentinel node? 

          Regardless, it is best to get things checked out.  Anything new and different is worth talking about with your cancer specialist so I would probably make an appointment there to have your concerns addressed.   Hopefully it is something benign and simple!

                My melanoma was in the exact same spot, arch of my left foot. It had spread to a lymph node, so I staged at 3B.

                I would recommend having one or both of your doctors look at your bump/lump. It may very well be nothing but it will give you peace of mind to hear a doctor say that. If it were to be something, it is better to catch it as early as possible. That is my philosophy.

                I was a total basket case the first 6 months and showed every little bump to anyone who would look at it (doctors only). I don't have as much anxiety anymore, but still show any little thing to the doctor just in case.
